About EMASoH

EMASoH - European Maritime Awareness in the Strait of Hormuz - was launched on 20th January 2020 by a joint European declaration of support and was fully operational on 25th February 2020.

Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and Portugal are currently taking part in EMASoH.

The European Maritime Awareness in the Strait of Hormuz mission aims to ensure a safe navigation environment, contribute to de-escalation of tensions and facilitate an inclusive, regional dialogue in the Strait of Hormuz. The mission consists of both a diplomatic track and a military track called Operation AGENOR. Military assets act in compliance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, UNCLOS.

How we operate:

  • Showing presence relevant to the level of threat;

  • Maintaining an autonomous Maritime Situational Awareness;

  • Keeping a de-escalatory posture with an open dialogue with other actors in the area;

  • Keeping an inclusive attitude towards all Gulf nations and promoting the dialogue among the entire maritime cluster.

  • Reassuring vessels by performing accompaniments and providing information;

  • Sharing data & information with other partners and shipping companies and setting a voluntary naval cooperation.
